Requirements:
Required
• Bachelor's degree in science related field, preferably food science or food microbiology or other related scientific field OR 7+ years of relevant plant/QA experience
• 3+ years experience in laboratory quality assurance and proficiency, competency in applied science and mathematics (chemistry, statistics)
• 3+ years experience in supervising and developing employees
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem solving and trouble shooting
• Must have flexible hours and be willing to work all shifts including weekends

Preferred
• Knowledge of ISO, HACCP plans, SOPS, GMPs and other similar policies
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel experience strongly desired)
• Experience in experimental design and evaluation
• Experience in team leadership, project management, or similar competency


Job Description:
Cargill Malt's strategic intent is to be the partner of choice with creative ideas that generate distinctive value for Cargill brewing customers while ensuring a competitive, sustainable and growing position in the global malt industry. We operate in nine countries in NA, EU and Latin America providing premier brewers with a wide range of the highest quality malts. Cargill Malt is seeking a Lab Supervisor in our Spiritwood, ND location.

This position manages and directs the operations of the quality laboratory responsible for the quality information provided to three malting locations and more than 20 customers while supporting the deployment, maintenance, evaluation and improvement of the systems that will ensure the quality of each days' analyses. The Lab Supervisor also monitors, evaluates and improves the product quality control activities performed by the QA laboratory and supervise the work of the QC technicians as well as coordinates their work with operations and reports data, quality issues and resolves concerns regarding data to internal and external customers.


Responsibilities and Duties of Role:

(40%) Support quality assurance activities in the laboratory. Maintain and monitor all quality control systems, including daily reporting, verification systems (e.g. SPC, equipment calibrations, PM and proficiency programs), sampling procedures, analytical tests and procedures, documentation and reports, needed to assure that all raw materials taken in and products are produced according to specified quality and food safety requirements. Monitor laboratory performance against external measures (e.g. collaboratives).

(25%) Assure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements. Effectively address customer analytical concerns. Evaluate the quality, coordinate, and monitor the preparation and sending of Certificate of Analyses, samples and other data as requested.


(10%) Coordinate the monitoring and evaluation of operational quality assurance control systems, maintaining accurate and pertinent information. Effectively communicate monitoring and evaluation results and procedures, including timely reporting of quality assurance and performance to each plant (eg. Track reanalyses, analyze and report anomalies and trends for Spiritwood, Prairie Malt and Sheboygan intake, production and shipments).


(10%) Recruit and develop qualified personnel. Maintain pertinent position content summaries: define skills and performance standards for each technician (practical and communication skills). Develop and maintain and monitor orientation, training and refresher programs for technicians. Develop and monitor individual training plans for each direct report [QC chemists]. Provide guidance and encouragement. Provide clear, actionable performance feedback to direct reports. Champion safety within the plant and laboratory.

(10%) Support systems for continuous improvement (eg. ISO 9001; GLP's and CRT). Support continuous improvement activities for the lab - application of new technology, equipment, systems.

(5%) Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned, including controlling the departments budget, purchasing supplies, performing sanitation inspections.
