Minimum Requirements: •An earned Ph.D. in horticulture or closely related field by the date of appointment. •Effective written, oral and electronic communication skills. •Demonstrated experience with applied horticultural research and publication of research findings. •Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and with diverse university faculty, Extension personnel, producers and the public. •Ability to address the informational needs of a wide range of stakeholders on a range of horticultural plants/crops. Preferred Requirements: •Work experience with Extension and/or a land-grant university system. •Evidence of success in obtaining extramural grant funding. •Experience with horticulture in the Midwest or Northern Great Plains.
Job Description:
This is a 12 month, tenure track (90% Extension, 10% college) position housed in the Department of Plant Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to provide leadership in the development and implementation of educational programs in all areas of horticulture in the State of North Dakota, including home landscaping and gardening, management of turf grass, small and tree fruits, and woody and herbaceous plant selection and management. He/she will be expected to prepare educational materials for the general public, county-based Extension agents, and horticultural industry. The successful candidate will also provide leadership for the statewide Master Gardener Program. He/she will employ current media technologies and face-to-face workshops to provide science-based information to interested stakeholders. He/she will be expected to collaborate with Extension colleagues, appropriate industry and grower groups, researchers within NDSU and other regional institutions, and other agencies in developing and implementing research and Extension programming. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an applied research program that will generate information in support of his/her Extension program and in preparing Extension and other peer-reviewed publications. Advising graduate students will be encouraged. Securing grant funding to support this applied research program is expected. Regular travel within North Dakota is a requirement.
