Job Description:
This position will assist the project leader to develop, establish, manage, and complete field and greenhouse research in weed science. Protocols primarily include herbicide, adjuvant, and application technology trials to investigate resistance to herbicides and improve and extend chemical weed control in small grain, oilseed, and pulse crops. Work includes tillage, planting, general crop production, plot establishment, pesticide application, data collection, harvest, and record keeping. The position will include GLP activities with the Interregional Research Project 4 (IR-4) program which provides residue samples for registration of novel pesticide uses. Occasional conjunction with cultural or mechanical practices leads to integrated pest management strategies towards systems approaches for North Dakota producers. The position will supervise students and help train graduate students, collaborate with industry representatives and present findings, and work collegially with other research leaders and research specialists.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Earned B.S. degree or the equivalent in Agronomy/Plant Sciences/Weed Science/Crop Production or related field
• Working experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing field plot equipment
• Basic computer competence in the use of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work well with others and effective supervisory skills
• Valid U.S. driver’s license
• ND Certified Pesticide Applicators License or ability to be certified

Preferred Qualifications:

• M.S. degree in Weed Science/Crop Science or related field
• Proficiency in production of the diverse crops grown in North Dakota
• Experience with herbicides and adjuvants
• Experience conducting small-plot and/or greenhouse research
• Competence in the use of ARM software
