The Northern Crops Institute (NCI) is a collaborative effort among North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, and Montana to support the promotion and market development of crops grown in this four-state region. The NCI is an international meeting and learning center that brings together customers, commodity traders, technical experts, and processors for discussion, education, and technical services. The NCI is well supported with funding by the four states, with an annual budget approaching $2 million. The director is administratively responsible to the Northern Crops Council and the President of NDSU (or designee), for the implementation of institute programs. The director provides leadership and direction of programs and the activities of 10 dedicated employees. Specific objectives include the provision of technical and marketing assistance through training courses and technical services designed to facilitate domestic and export market development.

*Master’s degree from an accredited institution with 4 years of experience in food science/processing, marketing, economics, risk management, or related field. OR
*Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with 6 years of experience in food science/processing, marketing, economics, risk management, or related field.
*Proven experience in administration, public relations, securing resources, and budget management.
*Effective contemporary communication skills
*Experience with diverse cultures
*Successful experience in personnel management
*Familiarity with crops grown in the northern Great Plains
*Willingness and ability to travel internationally
*Must be eligible to work and live in the U.S.
*Experience in any/all of these areas is desirable: international marketing, food science/processing and teaching
*Ph.D. from an accredited institution with experience in food science/processing, marketing, economics, risk management, or related field
