The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University welcomes applications for a postdoctoral research associate position. The successful applicant will: 1) sequence and analyze genome and transcriptome of plant-parasitic nematodes of importance in North Dakota, 2) develop and optimize molecular assays to detect and quantify plant-parasitic nematodes in soils and agricultural plants, and use the assays for nematode plant disease risk assessment, and 3) identify genes or QTL for resistance to the important plant-parasitic nematodes. Nematodes targeted include but are not limited to: root-lesion nematode, stubby root nematode, and soybean cyst nematode. The appointment is for 12 months with extension possible depending on satisfactory performance and funding.

PhD in Molecular Biology, Plant Pathology, Nematology, Plant Sciences or a related field earned before the start date; research experience in basic or applied molecular biology; experience working with microorganisms or plants; ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written; ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Experience in genome and transcriptome acquisition and annotation, developing molecular procedures for detecting plant pathogens, identifying plant resistance genes, and whole-genome wide association mapping; experience with bioinformatics analysis and molecular techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, gene cloning and sequence analysis, primer and probe design, SNP marker development, and functional analysis of genes; experience with laboratory, greenhouse and field research.
