This position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of airport mechanical equipment. Performs diagnosis, maintenance, and repair on a variety of gasoline and diesel engines, transmissions, differentials, and final drive units in automobiles, trucks, and heavy equipment. Performs diagnosis, maintenance, and repair on a variety of braking systems, cooling systems, electrical systems, and carburetors and fuel injection systems. Performs major diagnosis, maintenance, and repair on hydraulic systems, including hydraulic pump repair, including electronically controlled, pilot controlled, and base hydraulic type systems. Performs maintenance and repairs on all types of subsystems, such as engine management, ABS brakes, air bag systems, transmission controls, climate controls, ignition systems, fuel delivery systems, and engine performance systems. Responds to telephone and radio requests to repair security equipment, fire equipment, fire crash trucks, and grounds equipment. Performs major and minor metal fabrication for replacement parts; operates arc welder, MIG/wire welder, turning lathe, and acetylene torch. Performs safety inspections on all airport vehicles and equipment. Enters and retrieves information from computerized databases. Maintains accurate service records. Performs snow removal operations; operates snow plows, snow brooms, sand trucks, loaders, etc. Operates airport equipment, vehicles, heavy equipment, and ARFF trucks in support of a variety of airport operations. Performs repairs and maintenance on airport buildings and building system, including baggage belts, fire doors, electric motors, HVAC systems, electrical systems, jet bridges, and baggage valets. Responds to after-hours call-ins. Performs related duties.
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education. Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years. Possession of a valid Class D driver’s license issued by the State of North Dakota at the time of hire and acquisition of a Class B driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement within 6 months of hire. Must meet and maintain qualifications pursuant to 49 CFR Part 1542 (unescorted access authority). Must comply with USDOT drug/alcohol screening requirements.
Special Requirements: Occasional callback and work on evenings, weekends and holidays
