Job Description:
TITLE: Nursing Faculty (Rank dependent upon education and experience)

SUMMARY OF POSITION: This faculty member assumes an equitable teaching load and maintains expertise in areas of teaching responsibility in didactic and clinical courses in the AASPN programs; is academically qualified and credentialed, possesses an RN license in ND, or is eligible to obtain a ND RN license, and contributes to educational effectiveness via continued quality improvement and is responsible to plan, implement and evaluate the respective nursing education programs (AASPN face-to-face and future online programs).

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: This position reports to the Chair of the Department of Nursing

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s degree in Nursing
or currently in the process of completing a Master’s degree from an accredited institution
At least two years of experience as a nurse
Registered Nurse (RN) with a current, unencumbered license as recognized by the North Dakota Board of Nursing. Individual must also continue to meet ND Board of Nursing education requirement of 12 Contact Hours for licensure renewal (every two years).
Excellent computer and Internet skills
Ability to safely operate supplies and equipment utilized in patient care and/or classroom
Ability to organize/prioritize
Strong interpersonal/ oral/written communication skills
Strong customer service skills
Demonstrate detail orientation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctoral degree in Nursing
Knowledge and work experience as a medical-surgical nurse
Knowledge and work experience in acute care nursing across the lifespan
College teaching experience

BACKGROUND CHECK: Per NDUS Procedure 602.3 this position requires a criminal history check and a Sex Offender Registry check to be completed before beginning employment in this position. It is at the discretion of the hiring manager to approve the hire if the background check comes back other than clear.

STARTING DATE: As soon as possible

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Teach an equitable didactic and clinical class load and maintain expertise in area(s) of teaching responsibility
Course load each semester may involve teaching by IVN and/or online and travel to DSU distance locations (e.g., Bismarck and Williston, ND)
Prepare materials for content taught, according to department curricular plan
Assist with test monitoring, scoring, and reporting
Prepare the Nursing Learning and/or Simulation Labs for skill demonstrations and assist with student return demonstrations
Assume responsibility for stocking and maintaining Nursing Learning and/or Simulation Labs and providing resource materials for student use in clinical agencies
Supervise students’ didactic and clinical learning experiences, to provide opportunities to acquire the knowledge, skills, values and competencies necessary for nursing practice
Conduct clinical pre- and post-conferences, facilitating communication, identification of therapeutic nursing interventions and critical thinking
Provide formative and summative course grades and evaluate students' clinical performance via the Clinical Performance Evaluation
Select and evaluate clinical sites
Review and revise curriculum as needed
Be available to students and provide assistance
Maintain faculty expertise in content areas of teaching and clinical practice through education and/or practice
Conduct professional reading and/or research for self-improvement and effectiveness
Work towards advanced degree as needed
Attend and/or present at conferences, workshops, conventions, etc.
Maintain pertinent practice/teaching certification(s) [i.e. CPR, Nurse Educator, etc.]
Contribute to the research process in the educational and/or clinical setting
Share responsibility for recruitment and advisement of students
Visit with prospective students and/or family members and assist with pre-/registration
Write recommendations for students and assist with job placement
Participate in scheduled level/course and Department Faculty, Team (as assigned), and Advisory Committee Meetings
Participate in university committees and/or Faculty Senate
Participate in the respective Systematic Evaluation Plan (SEP) reporting to plan, implement, evaluate and update the curriculum/program, the admission, progression, graduation criteria and/or departmental policies
Assist with preparation of annual and accreditation reports and participate in ND Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) site visits
Conduct and/or assist at clinics, workshops, etc.
Teach for continuing education
Attend university educational and other functions
Making speeches/giving presentations to community groups
Organizing and/or working with community organizations and/or health care agency committees
Belonging to or holding office in community organizations
Seeking or holding governmental office or working on behalf of governmental candidates and/or organizations
Serving on advisory boards
Serving western North Dakota as a resource within one’s area(s) of expertise

Band: 2000 Academic
Term: 9.5 months (August – May)
Status: Full-time (100%), benefitted, exempt (from FLSA overtime)
