Job Description:
North Dakota State University Department of Visual Arts is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Graphic Design. This Assistant Professor position is a 9-month, tenure-track, full-time, benefited faculty position to begin Fall 2020. The candidate will have the opportunity to work collaboratively to shape the future of Graphic Design in our program. We seek diverse and innovative thinkers to meet the needs of our student-focused, land grant, research university. Women and other traditionally underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

The NDSU Visual Arts Department is housed in Renaissance Hall a state-of-the-art redesign of an early 20th-century building in Downtown Fargo as part of the NDSU extended campus. The department is growing and part of a thriving design/art population at NDSU of over 600 student’s campus-wide in departments that house Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Music, Theater and Interior Design and Apparel and textiles marketing. We have a significant role in the future of the university and have excellent public support with a recent 2 million-dollar+ Falck Endowment established for visual arts that support scholarships as well as program and faculty development.

The program is set within a bustling urban environment in a community of over 200,000 people with a strong tradition in the arts and an outstanding economy. The overall student population in the FM area is over 30,000 which brings a vibrancy that is unique to a mid-sized college city. Our students are at the center of the community while pursuing BFS, BS and BA in NASAD accredited degrees in Art, Design and Art Education.

Requirements:
Minimum Requirements:
MFA in Graphic Design or terminal degree in aligned discipline

Outstanding oral and written communication skills

Experience teaching at the collegiate level.

Ability and willingness to excel in teaching, research and service duties

Ability to work as a team member in a progressive and thriving department.
Preferred Requirements:
Professional experience in Design

Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing landscapes in education and studio/art history practice to adapt teaching to contemporary practice.

Demonstrated exhibition/research track record that will form a basis for productivity in this area as a faculty member.

Flexibility and willingness to grow as a design practitioner to diversify studio expertise to support a program that is increasingly interdisciplinary.

Demonstrated experience to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds.

Experience in UX/UI and ability to lead this area of design
