Summary of Work

North Dakota Information Technology provides specialized technology and support services. These functions include design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems, network administration, computer hardware and software support, help desk, forms management and technology training. The successful candidate must be able to make sound decisions with minimal guidance, stay current with trends and changes in the area of technical expertise and related areas. Must also possess strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate individuals and create a strong team environment.

The successful candidate is responsible for supporting, administering and implementing multiple enterprise database systems. The candidate will need to demonstrate database administration experience with one or more of the following; SQL Server, Oracle and/or cloud technologies. The candidate will be responsible for supporting the databases and ensuring their performance, availability and security. The successful candidate will also be responsible for the data management goals and needs as well as how these relate to the existing and evolving transactional databases and/or data warehouses, and their architecture, while ensuring compliance with IT policies, procedures, practices, principles, standards and guidelines of sound database administration work.

Duties and Tasks

•Plan organize, implement and maintain multiple database environments, both production and development

•Provide guidance on data modeling

•Work with internal parties and vendors to plan, design, and implement information technology solutions, providing expertise in areas including recovery strategies, performance tuning, data migration, security, and capacity planning

•Responsible for providing trend analysis to the management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management

•Review the current database architecture, re-design and develop new databases

•Develop ETL processes for import and export of data

•Implement and maintain critical systems adhering to data security standards set for the by the organization


Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications

Database Design Analyst III

Requires one of the following:

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of four years of current and progressive work experience in the design, development, and maintenance of databases required in support of computer systems. At least one year must include experience working on large projects or as the lead Database Design Analyst.
•An Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of six years of current and progressive work experience may be substituted for the above bachelor’s degree requirement. At least one year must include experience working on large projects or as the lead Database Design Analyst.

Note: The Department will attempt to fill this position at the Database Design Analyst II level if unable to find candidates who meet the above outlined minimum qualifications; the hiring authority reserves the right to under fill this position as Database Design Analyst II. NDIT will train the successful candidate in any areas of unfamiliarity.

Database Design Analyst II

Requires one of the following:

•Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of two years of current and progressive work experience in the design, development, and maintenance of databases required in support of computer systems.
•An Associate’s degree in Computer Science or related field and a minimum of four years of current and progressive work experience may be substituted for the above bachelor’s degree requirement.
