Job Description:
Responsibilities for the full-time research specialist in the weed science program in the Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University are to transition and manage the weed science database and provide information as requested. Conduct greenhouse, field and laboratory research experiments; assist in educational efforts; organize and present research results to stakeholders; assist in preparing research reports and revising publications. Cooperate with private industry, USDA-ARS, other universities, faculty/staff in the Department of Plant Sciences, other NDSU departments, other state, area, and county agriculture specialists, agriculture professionals, and growers. Use computer technology in information transfer and presentation and enter and statistically analyze research data. Increase personal weed science education and expertise. Supervise and manage graduate students and part-time employees.

Minimum Qualifications:
• M.S. degree in Plant Sciences, Agronomy, Crop and Weed Sciences or closely related agricultural discipline
• Previous research experience in laboratory, field and greenhouse management
• Specialized knowledge in adjuvant and application technology, advanced statistical analysis, research plot equipment operation and maintenance, ARM and SAS computer software proficiency
• Demonstrated ability on the use/operation of field research plot and lab equipment
• Ability to work effectively with coworkers, producer groups, industry personnel and the public
• Ability to interpret research results
• Completed an internship with university and/or industry in agriculture
• Demonstrated skills in oral and written communication
• Demonstrated skills in computer applications and technology
• Experience supervising others
• Valid U.S. drivers license or equivalent
• Must be capable of lifting 50+ pounds
• Ability to earn Pesticide Applicators Certificate

Preferred Qualifications:
• Farm experience
• Knowledge of North Dakota agricultural production systems
