The Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University is seeking a research specialist to assist in all aspects of activities associated with the NDSU Pulse Breeding and Genetics program. The main goal of the program is to develop improved cultivars and germplasm of field pea, chickpea and lentil. The incumbent is responsible for performing and coordinating daily activities conducted in the field and greenhouse, including training and supervision of graduate students and hourly workers. Other responsibilities include collaboration with the project leader in designing and performing experiments, data analysis and presentation and assistance in writing papers. Duties are performed under general guidance of the project leader.
Advertised salary: $43,000 +/year
Operate and transport trucks, trailers, plot sprayers, combine and harvesters. Physically able to perform field and greenhouse research, kneeling and lifting up to 50 lbs.
Bachelor’s degree in plant breeding, genetics, agronomy, molecular biology, plant sciences or related field plus at least three year experience in applied plant breeding or closely related field
Experience in field plot research and experimental design
Experience with farm equipment, able to drive truck with attached trailer, competency with loading, hauling and unloading plot research equipment
Strong written and verbal communication skills and able to work with others in a multicultural environment.
Valid U.S. driver license
Master’s degree in plant breeding, genetics, agronomy, molecular biology, plant sciences or related fields
