Job Description:
The research program of Dr. Svetlana Kilina at the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, North Dakota State University is seeking a postdoctoral candidate for conducting research on a topic closely related to the project funded by the DOE Grant for 2020-2023.

The project is focused on computational aspects of the electronic/spin structure calculations and non-adiabatic charge/spin dynamics of carbon nanotubes covaelently functionalized by small organic molecules. Candidates are selected on the basis of their academic achievements and the promise of their scientific research, as reflected in their CV, Research Statement, and recommendation letters. Candidates are required to have experience/ training in usage of common computational chemistry software and in creation of computational programs and codes. Applications exhibiting a strong curiosity about theoretical/computational chemistry and materials modeling and focused on collaborative and cross-disciplinary research are especially encouraged.

Minimum Education and Experience: Ph.D in chemistry or related field, effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Education and Experience: Ph.D in Computational Chemistry or Computational/theoretical Physics, or Materials Modeling; Strong experience in first-principles calculations and scientific coding.

2. Research Statement

Submit a clearly articulated statement of one or two research directions including a discussion of their connection to the project “Charge/spin dynamics in covalently functionalized carbon nanotubes”. The ability to describe one's research in a way that can be understood and valued is critical to the competitive selection process of postdoc candidates. Your statement should not exceed 2 pages, including references and figures. The file should be submitted as a pdf and use a font no smaller than 11 point.

3. References

Provide the names and email addresses of three references who will be able to write about your potential as a CCTCh Fellow. The references may be from any institution. All references must be able to provide their letter by the April 12, 2021 deadline. It is your responsibility to verify your references' email addresses and to ensure their willingness to provide a letter on your behalf prior to the application deadline date.
