Position Description & Details:
This position is located at the Towner State Nursery near Towner, North Dakota. The position is responsible for all routine operations associated with greenhouse seedling production. Duties also include assisting with packaging of nursery stock, preparing tree orders, assisting with irrigation of field and greenhouse stock, and assisting customers. Special projects include coordinating packaging and delivery of trees for Trees bowl and Arbor Day events.
*Supervise part time employees during grading and packaging procedures
*Oversee quality control of nursery stock during grading to ensure stock is of the highest quality.
*Maintain packaging and shipping equipment
*Assist customers when required
*Assist with preparation of tree shipments as needed
*Implement growing schedules and procedures to maximize greenhouse production of container stock.
*Train and assist part time employees assigned to duties with container stock
*Schedule and apply pesticide applications as prescribed
*Maintain inventory records of container stock and greenhouse supplies
*Note and report disease problems of stock
*Collect media and fertilizer samples monthly and send in for analysis
*Apply test treatments
*Monitor greenhouse controls
*Mix fertilizer solutions
*Prepare reports on test projects
*Assist with daily nursery activities as needed including field production activities, repairs, building and infrastructure improvements, and snow removal
*Report monthly accomplishments
*Participate in team/staff meetings.
*Coordinate tree packaging and delivery of trees for Trees Bowl, Arbor Day, and other special events
*Coordinate with the Systems Irrigation Specialist to assist with periodic weekend watering of bare root seed/transplant beds
*Coordinate seed collection and extraction
*Follow safety rules, help identify unsafe conditions, stop co-workers who are working in an unsafe manner.
*Assist in providing annual safety training to part-time and seasonal employees
*Participate in required baseline safety training and necessary pesticide training
*Participate in NDFS Safety/Loss Control committee and ensure that policies and procedures are implemented at nursery

Advertised Salary: $37,000+ DOE

*High School diploma and 2 yerars of college or equivalent years of experience.
*Two years of college with the major field of study or degree emphasis in horticulture, natural resources, forestry, plant sciences, or related field.
