Job Description:
Exciting opportunity for someone who loves payroll tax reporting and working with a great team! Responsible for accurately processing and reporting payroll taxes and third party vendor information for MDU Resources and its family of companies. Analyze and/or balance payroll information that results in accurate financial reporting and sound internal controls while ensuring data integrity.

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
Payroll Financial Analyst I
• Requires understanding of business and accounting practices and working knowledge of payroll at a level normally acquired through completion of four year degree in business, accounting, or finance. Equivalent direct experience will be considered.

Payroll Financial Analyst II
• Requires understanding of business and accounting practices and working knowledge of payroll at a level normally acquired through completion of four year degree in business, accounting, or finance. Equivalent direct experience will be considered; and
• Two to four years’ experience in payroll.

Payroll Financial Analyst III
• Requires understanding of business and accounting practices and working knowledge of payroll at a level normally acquired through completion of four year degree in business, accounting, or finance. Equivalent direct experience will be considered; and
• Four to six years’ experience in payroll.

Key Skills & Competencies
1. Must be capable of working on items of a moderately complex nature.
2. Thorough knowledge of personal computers, ERP or accounting applications, and complex spreadsheet functions.
3. Demonstrated customer focus and excellent team interaction skills.
4. Must be able to recognize changing priorities and shift work focus appropriately. Must have independent thought process and work with minimal day to day direction.
5. Demonstrated analytical ability.
6. Willingness to seek increased responsibilities.
7. Ability to use findings from one transaction to search and identify all other like transactions and apply appropriate corrective actions.

Job Responsibilities
1. Process federal and state tax filings and payments.
2. Process W2 and 1095 forms.
3. Remit child support and garnishment payments.
4. General Ledger reconciliations for payroll related accounts.
5. Balance benefit transactions and accounts.
6. Balance and submit third party vendor files.
7. Time entry review and approval.
8. Maintain payroll tables and other payroll system updates.

Additional Job Responsibilities:
1. Focus on service quality and deadlines.
2. Manage workload so that priority is given each day to the most essential work.
3. Analyze data, balance transactions, review input for accuracy.
4. Understand implications and ensure appropriate coding of transactions in different tax jurisdictions.
5. Execute routine reports and respond to data requests.
6. Customer Relationship Management: Establish and preserve open communication with business unit customers. Utilize team resources to provide answers to customers.
7. Comply with data integrity, confidentiality and security requirements.
8. Support shared services management’s strategy, leadership, initiatives and culture.
9. Overtime is required during peak processing times.
10. Perform other duties as assigned.
